East Regional Library just held their first Iron Chef Challenge and the secret ingredient was Jello. With 13 teen chefs the 6 judges had a hard time to wiggle out a winner.
Best Use of Jell-O: Dylan E., grade 10 (multi-colored jello roll – looked like an alien bug!)
Most creative: Christian P., grade 8 (red and blue snails)
Best tasting: Emily S., grade 6 (pizza tart using sugar cookie dough for the crust)
Here are some delicious recipes to try out:
Summer Berry Pie
3/4 cup sugar, 3 tablespoons cornstarch, 1.5 cups of water, 1 package (small box) red flavor Jell-o, 1 cup blueberries, 1cup raspberries, 1 cup sliced strawberries, 1 graham cracker crumb crust, 2 cups thawed whipped topping.
Mix sugar and cornstart in medium saucepan. Gradually stir in water until smooth. Stirring constantly, cook on medium heat until mixture comes to boil – boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in Jell-o until its disolved. Cool to room temperature, then stir in berries. Finally, pour into crust! Put in fridge until firm and serve with a dallop of whipped topping! YUM
