Flora Segunda does not have it easy. Her mother is a very busy and usually absent General and her father is given to mad rages and rarely leaves his eyrie. Besides these parental troubles, she’s feeling the pressure of her approaching birthday, when she is expected to continue the family tradition by joining the military. On top of everything, she is the only one trying to keep their dilapidated house, Crackpot Manor, from falling down.
Running late one morning, Flora Segunda takes a shortcut forbidden to her – the Manor Elevator. The house has 11,000 constantly moving rooms, all in great disrepair, so she feels jubilant when her unplanned ride leads her to the one person who could help her restore Crackpot Manor to its former glory – the long-banished Butler. Flora wants to believe he’s the answer to at least one of her prayers, but it will be a while before she finds out for sure. Her meeting with Valefor the Butler, fortuitous or not, is just the start of a marvelous adventure featuring the intrepid Flora, her friend Udo, the not-so-trustworthy Butler, a sorcerer, a pirate, and a younger version of the crazy father she’s always known.
Fantasy readers will enjoy the many plot twists, the surprise ending and the promise of more to come.
