New Books for Teens 2/16/2010

Because I Am Furniture by Thalia Chaltas–This novel is written in verse similar to an Ellen Hopkins books.  Anke has an abusive father, but he only abuses her brother and sister.  Anke is the invisible child, just a piece of furniture.  Then she joins the volleyball team and has to find a voice for herself.  This sounds similar to Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin by Josh Berk–Will Halpin is deaf, overweight and bullied.  He is also determined to solve the mystery of who murdered a football player in his class.
