Who Won?

You’ve been dying to find out who won our 2010 Teen Poetry Contest, right?  Well, the wait is over.  For a list of winners, please visit the WCPL Teens’ website.  Once we have gained permission from our winners, the winning poems will be found on the website as well.

If you would like to hear the poems read aloud by their authors, consider joining us on Sunday, April 25, at 2:00 p.m. for our awards ceremony and reception.  The event will take place at the Cameron Village Regional Library in Raleigh.  No signup is required for the event!

Finally, a BIG, HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who entered our contest this year.  We had over 500 entries from students in more than 60 Wake County public, private and home schools.  Keep writing, and consider entering again next year, okay?!

I was honored to be one of the judges of the Poetry Contest this year. (I was involved in the Poetry “scene” in South Florida for many years and didn’t realize how I missed it.) Choosing the winners for 2010 was very difficult, because there were so many truly great entries. Congratulations to the winners! To me, everyone is a winner who submitted a poem, writes poetry, or appreciates poetry! I’ll echo Katy with a thank you to everyone involved. A few libraries are hosting Poetry nights for Teens, so if you love Poetry, these are great events where you can read your work or just listen to excellent poetry.

Today is the 13th of March. In the rules, it says that entries can still be submitted until 5:00 today. On another one of the library pages, it says that entries can be submitted until 5:00 on March 14th. The link does not work and by the looks of your post, the contest is already over. My daughter has a poem she’d like to submit and it looks like we are still playing by the rules. Is there any help you might be able to offer? Thanks.

Today, March 13, is the last day for entries in the 2011 poetry contest. The page you have commented on here is from last year’s (2010) contest. Entries may be submitted until 5:00 p.m. today to studentpoetry@wakegov.com.
