Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports by James Patterson

This book is the third installment in the Maximum Ride books (make sure to read from the first and second books, you’ll understand this one a LOT better by doing that). In my personal view, this is the best in the series. It is full of twists and turns that make the Batman roller coaster in Six Flags look puny. I had to put effort to take my eyes off of the pages once the first twist started. The book is definitely an 11 out of 10 (yes, I mean what I say).

The whole story began two books before this one (read them, I’m not going to tell you what happens in those books). There are six kids who are on the run: Max (the leader), Fang, Iggy, the Gasman, Nudge, and Angel. They can fly because they have bird DNA in their bodies. There is a group of evil scientists who put the DNA into them when they were babies. They are a part of the School (find out about it in the first book). A so-called apocalypse is coming (at least that’s what the evil scientists think), and they are creating genetically enhanced supermen (and superwomen) who will survive that and rule the world. The six kids were their first successful attempt at that. But now that the scientists have created better genetic supermen, the group is no longer needed. They are basically now trash that needs to be incinerated. Will they die at the hands of the School? Not if Max and her group have something to say about it…
