Teens’ Top Ten 2010: The Roar by Emma Clayton

The Roar by Emma Clayton is one of the Teens’ Top Ten Nominations for 2010.

In the not-too-distant, but yes-too-depressing future, Ellie and Mika are twins who have been torn apart.  Ellie was kidnapped and forced to use the considerable powers of her mind to further the work of the YDF – the Youth Development Foundation – headed by the sinister Mal Gorman.  She tries again and again to escape, while her family thinks she is dead, and spends her days in the dreary Shadows, where there is no sunlight.

But Mika knows that Ellie is alive.  And not only that, he knows that the YDF is up to something, feeding kids “Fit Mix” and sponsoring tournaments of Pod Fighter, an addictive virtual reality game.  Mike, a mutant, is great at the game, and by winning tournaments, gets himself closer to Ellie.  But are they powerful enough to stop the evil plans of Mal Gorman and the government’s plans for the future?  Read this exciting, fast-paced book to find out!
