Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins is one of the Teens’ Top Ten Nominations for 2010.
In Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games, teens Katniss and Peeta are celebrated by the Districts. They won the Hunger Games by breaking all of the established rules. On their victory tour, it becomes clear that their defiance of the Capitol’s rules has encouraged people of other Districts to begin breaking the rules. Unknowingly, Katniss and Peeta have sparked a rebellion. To keep the rebellion from fully igniting, Katniss and Peeta must pretend that they are in love with one another, even though they are not. This arrangement is especially difficult for Katniss as she is forced to live a lie in order to protect those she loves, including her family and her special male friend, Gale. In an unprecedented turn of events, the past winners of Hunger Games competitions once again enter the arena for the 75th anniversary of the games. The books is full of action, plot twists, and gore, and readers are treated to a cliff hanger ending that will hopefully be resolved in the final book, Mockingjay, scheduled for release on August 24th.
