Teens’ Top Ten 2010: Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen is one of the Teens’ Top Ten nominations for 2010.

The summer before she goes to college, Auden decides to live with her Dad, step-mom and new step-sister, Thisbe, in a small beach town.  It’s a perfect read for summer vacation.  Auden discovers romance, new friends and almost total freedom.  Her Step-mom is completely absorbed and exhausted by her newborn, and her Dad is distracted as usual by finishing his latest novel.  Auden has always been so reliable and obedient anyway that they keep few tabs on her.  She reluctantly, at first, learns to cut loose with her new friends. Once she lets down her guard and lightens up, she finds that people can have many sides to their personality once she gives them and herself a chance.  This book is easy to read, dramatic, realistic, and humorous, but also includes some serious situations.
