Movie Review: Legend of the Guardians The Owls of Ga’Hoole

I remember reading this series when I was in elementary school. Apparently, it’s based on the first three books of the series: The Capture, The Journey, and The Rescue, all written by Kathryn Lasky (who, interestingly enough, was an executive producer of this movie). So when it came out in DVD, I decided to watch it.

After being pushed out of his nest, Soren is captured by the owls of St. Aggie’s where owls are “moonblinked” (or brainwashed) and trained as soldiers. However, Soren and some of his newfound friends escape and are blown to the legendary island of Ga’Hoole. There, they train with the wise, brave, and noble Guardians of Ga’Hoole to fight in the war against those striving for power in St. Aggie’s. Overall, this is an epic adventure of learning to trust your gizzard, owls dressed in battle gear, and ultimately, of betrayal.

I had fun watching this movie. I think they did very well with it, and the soundtrack was good too, including the song “To the Sky” by Owl City (which is a very appropriate song).

If you’re interested in the books, here they are. Just click on the image to reserve them at your nearest Wake County Public Library 😀
