May Holidays….

MAY 1st  

May Day- A celebration of spring and summer, and in Hawaii it is called “lei day”

Loyalty Day- A day to think of our soldiers and to think about the love for our country. George W. Bush said “We express allegiance to our Nation and its founding ideals, we resolve to ensure that the blessings of liberty endure and extend for generations to come.” when proclaiming this day, although it started in the 1920’s.

Mother Goose  Day- A day to re-read all those stories you loved when you were a child, read them to the young children in your life, or to yourself…

Save The Rhinos Day- The Rhinos have been hunted to near extinction, use this day to explore savetherhino.com (http://www.savetherhino.org/eTargetSRINM/site/1/default.aspx)

Did you know that the horn of a Rhino is made out of the same material as your fingernails?

MAY 2nd

Baby Day- Today is a day to spend extra time with an infant, play with them, and realize how amazing the simple things are.

Brothers and Sisters Day- Perfect if your bro or sister is a baby! Spend the day with your sibling. When was the last time that you guys had fun together?

Lumpy Rug Day- Well, to be honest, I’ve never seen a lumpy rug. But if you have one laying around your house, go buy a new, lump-less rug.

MAY 3rd

National Teacher’s day- Do your homework, do your classwork, and don’t talk while your teacher is. Just be nice to your teacher, I’m sure they will appreciate it.

Word Press freedom day- In America we have the freedom of press, and we should be grateful for it. Many countries don’t have it.  Imagine what the world would be like without some of the books you like to read.

MAY 4th

Bird Day, National Bird Day and Migratory Bird Day- Stare out your window at some birds. Out my window, I see my three chickens, woodpeckers, red cardinals, blue birds and humming birds. Once you done, color them! http://www.crayola.com/free-coloring-pages/print/bird-mobile-coloring-page/

National Candied Orange Peel Day- You have probably eaten these without even knowing! Many holiday cookies include candied oranges.  You can make some http://www.ehow.com/how_2006926_candied-orange-peel.html OR just make cookies that include them http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/candied-orange-sugar-cookies

Renewal Day- Time to renew that nail polish, and the grass, and the carpet needs to be vacuumed. Today, try to renew as much as possible.

MAY 5th

Cinco de Mayo- On May 5, 1862, the French army was defeated by the Mexican army at the Battle of Puebla. This solitary military battle signified defeat of a European power and a huge victory for the Mexican people.

National Hoagie Day- Eat a hoagie. Go ahead. Do it. Make one, buy one. Eat as breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or as a snack. Your choice, just eat one.

Oyster Day- Eat some shell fish, or you can just buy some pearls, for yourself or that special person in your life.

MAY 6th

Beverage Day- Well, as this is being a little broad, drink as much liquid as you can today, If it rains, go outside and drink that. Maybe try a beverage that you’ve never had before…

International Tuba Day- International Tuba Day was founded by Joel Day in 1979. He was a tuba player tired of the lack of respect for his fellow tuba players, their instruments are REALLY heavy, up to 50 lbs.

Military Spouses Day- All those single Mothers and Fathers at home caring for their children while their spouse is at war have it tough, Today show them your support.

National Tourist Appreciation Day- Well if you are a tourist shouldn’t every day be your day?

International No Diet Day- Appreciate the body you have and remember  that people come in all shapes and sizes.

Space Day to International Space Day- Former astronaut and Senator John Glenn founded this holiday in 2011, So there has only been one other celebration, spread the word!

MAY 7th

Birth Mothers Day- This day was created by birth mothers in Seattle, Washington. It was first celebrated in 1990. For all the woman who gave their children to others so they could grow up with better life.

MAY 8th

No Socks Day- pretty self-explanatory, don’t wear socks! Let your toes be FREE!

MAY 9th

Lost Sock Memorial Day- A day for all those single socks in your draw, don’t let them suffer, pair them up with another single!

MAY 10th

Clean Up Your Room Day- A day most defiantly made up by parents! Well, do it, you know your room needs it!

MAY 11th

Eat What You Want Day- Not eat as much as you want day, just what you want. So don’t over stuff because of the date, Just have a bit of what you really want!

MAY 12th

Fatigue Syndrome Day-

Suggested Activities for Today:

  • Go right back to bed
  • Take a nap
  • Use up a vacation day
  • Cancel activities for the day!

MAY 13th

Blame Someone Else Day – first  Friday the 13th of the year!

Friday the 13th- Good Luck!

Frog Jumping Day- How to celebrate this day? Read Mark Twain’s story “Jim Smiley and His Jumping Frog”, for which this day was made!

Leprechaun Day-  Today is dedicated to all the Wee Guys in Ireland! If it’s a rainy day… Go out and try to catch a Leprechaun!

Dance Like a Chicken Day- Listen to the chicken dance song… AND DANCE!

MAY 15th

National Chocolate Chip Day- Make some REALLY yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies, and share them!

MAY 16th

Love a Tree Day- Go hug a tree, then plant one, then be grateful for all the oxygen they give you!

National Sea Monkey Day- Sea Monkeys are amazing little things that appear almost instantly when placed in water! Today is your day to go buy some, or if you have them, give them a treat!

Wear Purple for Peace Day- If your for peace (and why wouldn’t you be?) wear purple!

MAY 17th

Pack Rat Day- Admit it, you’re a pack rat! Don’t worry, today is your day to embrace it! Don’t throw anything out! Keep it all, one day it might be valuable!

MAY 18th

No Dirty Dishes Day- Don’t put off this chore, today, as soon as you finish eating, wash your dish!


Boys and Girls Club Day- Try to join the scouts! Or just go for a hike and pretend!


Be a Millionare Day- Just remember this ” All I ask is for a chance to prove that money doesn’t buy happiness”. Author unknown.

Pick Strawberry Day- Go out and pick some strawberries! They will be yummy!

National Memo Day- Write your self a Memo: Today is Memo Day!

MAY 22nd

Buy a Musical Instrument Day- What are you waiting for? Go buy an Instrument!

MAY 23rd

Lucky Penny Day- Good luck finding a lucky penny! “A penny for your thoughts”


National Escargot Day- Eat Snails? No way. This is one holiday I wont be celebrating!

MAY 25th

National Tap Dance Day- Well, it’s not like you REALLY know how to tap dance, So just have fun!

Amnesty International Day- This day Recognizes the need to protect human rights around the world. Be nice today; tell that person you said a mean thing about sorry.

Water A Flower Day- Remember that flower you planted and never watered? Go water it.

MAY 31st 

World No Tobacco Day-  “In 1987, the World Health Assembly passed Resolution WHA40.38, calling for 7 April 1988 to be a “a world no-smoking day.” In 1988, Resolution WHA42.19 was passed, calling for the celebration of World No Tobacco Day, every year on 31 May.”
