I can honestly say this was one of the most depressing, moving, and heart-wrenching movies I have ever watched. Based on a true story, Grave of the Fireflies depicts the sufferings of two children who lose their houses in the Kobe bombing during WWII. This movie is unrated, but I personally would not recommend it for anyone under 13 years old due to some graphic depictions of suffering and disease.
I feel that the WWII context gives this movie a bad reputation. Many people might assume that this movie is an anti-American movie, but it’s not. This movie is profoundly anti-war itself. It begins with the death of a main character, and then backtracks to when the story begins at the Kobe bombings. Read the rest of this entry »

This movie was absolutely incredible. On the surface it looks like your standard “girl gets magical powers, abuses them, learns an Aesop lesson and comes out of it more mature than before” boring movie. …It’s not. It’s so much better. Read the rest of this entry »

The general reaction of people who see the cover of Tekkon Kinkreet, a full-length Japanese animated film, is “what is that what the heck why is the art so weird that’s weird I don’t want to watch.” That was my first reaction, at least. But this movie is just one of those movies you need to watch. Just have a little faith in me, and I promise you won’t be disappointed. It’s amazing.
The two boys in the picture above are named Black and White, and they live in Treasure Town as orphans on the street. Black is a fierce fighter that rules the streets with force, while White, several years younger, is a dreamy, innocent boy that’s a little out of touch with reality. Read the rest of this entry »

The official Summer Wars poster
Summer Wars was easily one of the best movies I have ever watched. (I just got back from China, so, no, I have not seen Inception yet.) Personally Miyazaki movies always go over my head a little bit, so I was never a big fan of a lot of his movies like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away because they never quite grab my attention that well. This movie completely grabbed my attention by the neck and held it until the end. Read the rest of this entry »

Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh. I can’t believe I just realized I should do a review of Axis Powers Hetalia. In fact it totally slipped my mind, until I was on the bus yesterday thinking “Hey, I should do a new blog post! What have I been watching lately?”
DING DING DING HETALIA DUH?
So I guess I’ll start off by telling you what it is about, and before you laugh, let me tell you it’s adorable and brilliant and just wonderful. Read the rest of this entry »

Finished with KHR, season 4. Again, I LOVED IT!
This time I have more nitpicks than I did with season two, but this idea is just so original. Epic wuv. I’ll outline the plot now:
So Reborn is hit with Lambo’s 10-Year Bazooka. And uh oh…well…no one appears in his place. So to try and get answers, Tsuna accidentally gets blasted into the future and finds out two things. One: In 10 years, Sawada Tsunayoshi will have lost his life. Two: The 10-Year Bazooka is malfunctioning. He’s going to be staying a while.
